At the beginning of this year Andrew and Tom decided to hike the main ridge of Fagaras Mountains. Not even the flying company strike could stop them. They arrived one day later, just in time for Oktoberfest which was held earlier this year in Brasov. We started our hike in Poiana Neamtului and climbed to Barcaciu Chalet. It was a short and good warm up for the days to come. The hospitality we found at Barcaciu exceeded our expectations. Here we met Marie, a young girl from Germany, who asked to hike further with us. Tom and Andrew were very kind and welcomed Marie in our group. Next day we started to hike the main ridge from Avrig Lake to Sambata. It was also the time for the blueberry festival to start. They were everywhere. Every time we were stopping for rest we could find blueberries, so we took more breaks than we needed.
We said goodbye to Marie at Balea Chalet and continued our hike. The good weather stayed with us all the time. After climbing the many peaks including the highest in Romania, Vistea, Negoiu and Moldoveanu, we descended to Sambata Chalet. On Moldoveanu Peak we met Mircea who hiked together with us on the way down. We celebrated with local beer and returned to Brasov for a festive diner. The vacation was over and so was our tour. The next day we headed to Bucharest and visited Peles Castle. Now we look at the pictures and remember the fun time we had.
