Ski Touring Trip in Bucegi Mountains

March 2011

A group from Transylvania came to try ski touring in Bucegi Mountains, one of the best choices in Romania. Our group was hosted at Padina Chalet on Ialomita Valley. The first day we skied on Doamnele Ridge. The second day we climbed to Strunga Pass which gives a glorious view over Piatra Craiului Mountains and skied on Coteanu Ridge in a fresh powder snow. On the third day the weather was not very good, so everybody took a rest. The weather looked good on the fourth day so we decided to try Omu Peak. We climbed Cocora Peak and than had a lunch break at Babele Chalet. A very strong wind greeted us when we got out of the chalet. Half of the group decided to return to Padina with one guide and the other half continued with the second guide towards Omu Peak. When we reached Ialomita Valley it was late and the wind very strong, so we decided to descend. In the end everybody warmed up at Padina Chalet with a hot soup and Transylvanian brandy.
