Ski Mountaineering in Bucegi Mountains

December 2011

We wanted to test our new ski mountaineering gear so we decided to try a trip in Bucegi Mountains. We started from Busteni Town early in the foggy morning and climbed to White Valley. The clouds were not too thick, so we were shortly above them. Because there was not much snow our ski mountaineering trip turned into a mountaineering one. After five hours of climbing we were on the top of the valley. We could climb on skies only the last part.  From here we climbed on our skies up to Omu Peak and had a quick lunch at the Weather Station. George and Alex greeted us with warm tea so we can fight again the cold wind. The sun was already going down, so we hurried to ski as much as possible in the light. We descended on Cerbului Valley the first part on skies and the rest walking. Our trip ended hiking in the night back to Busteni Town, where our car was waiting for us. See you next year.

Happy New Year!
