Rock Climbing in Postavaru Mountains – Muchia Caprioarei

October 2011

Richard has been travelling in Europe for a while and found our site. He decided to try traditional rock climbing in Romania and contacted us. Unfortunately the great weather we had this autumn finished exactly when Richard came. Although the weather was cold we tried an outdoor sport climbing wall in the first day. He also wanted to see the trad climbing wall and finished the day with a tour of the medieval fortress of Brasov City. Since the next day the weather was even worse we went to see a wooden church from Poiana Brasov resort and Rasnov Fortress. The following day was cold again, so we chose to hike through Zarnesti Gorges in Piatra Craiului Mountains and around Plaiu Foii where we visited Nea Iosca and his blacksmith workshop. On the way back to Brasov City we also visited Ghimbav and Cristian villages to see the Saxon architecture. Fortunately the last day the sun showed up so we went to Animals Wall in Postavaru Mountains to achieve or goal: trad climbing in Romania. After a half an hour approach hike we climbed Muchia Caprioarei (Deer Edge), which is an easy 6 pitch route. The Animals Wall gave us great views over Piatra Mare and Bucegi Mountains. We ended the day enjoying a festive dinner in a traditional Romanian restaurant. This end of our story is actually the beginning of a new one, because Richard already asked for a reservation in 2012. He will return to climb routes like Muchia Iepurasului (Rabbit Edge) and Coarnele Caprei (Goat Horns).

We are looking forward to welcome you again Richard,
