Hiking in Fagaras Mountains – Main Ridge

August 2011

Maria was leading an eight group tourists from Spain and wanted to make a tour on the main ridge of Fagaras Mountains. She needed a local mountain guide for this adventure, so this is the way she met Your Guide. The meeting point was Predeal Town. On our way to Fagaras Mountains we stopped to visit Bran Castle and Brancoveanu Monastery. We hiked up to Valea Sambetei Chalet which was our host for two nights. The second day we climbed Cheia Bandei Peak and returned to the chalet. The next day we climbed Sambata Valley all the way up to the main ridge and hiked along the ridge to Podragu Chalet. This was the longest and most difficult hiking day of the whole tour as we climbed the highest and third highest peaks in Romania, Moldoveanu and Vistea. On the fourth day we hiked from Podragu cu Capra Chalet. The next day we chose an easier hike to get some rest. We climbed Vanatoarea lui Buteanu Peak to see the best panoramic view over Fagaras Mountains and descended to Balea Lake Chalet. On the sixth day we hiked to Caltun Lake to see the second highest peak in Romania, Negoiu Peak, and returned to Balea Lake. We finished our tour descending on Doamnei Valley to Balea Waterfall. Our driver took us to Sibiu City where we said goodbye. Maria, we are looking forward to see you again next year.
